At last night’s State of the Union Address (SOTU), Obama made sure that victims of gun violence were in the audience. Tickets were provided to victims through members of the Democratic House while Obama claimed to “want a balanced approach to solving the nation’s gun violence problem.”
Obama said that victims of gun-related violence “deserve a vote” on a Congressional gun control package. Obama said: “Gabby Giffords deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote.”
It was asserted that Congress must come together to prevent US citizens from purchasing guns legally, only to give them to criminals. Obama clarified assault rifles were now considered “weapons of war” that should be banned so that law enforcement would not be outgunned.
David Wheeler, who lost a son during the Sandy Hook shooting said that he lost his child because of an unstable, suicidal individual who “had access to a weapon that has no place in a home.” Wheeler went on to say: “The liberty of any person to own a military-style assault weapon and a high-capacity magazine and keep them in their home is second to the right of my son to his life. His life, to the right to live of all of those children and those teachers, the rights of your children, of you, of all of us. Let’s honor the founding documents and get our priorities straight.”
David Barzetti, father of a slain 5 year old boy, grieved for his loss, yet did not believe it would be solved with a federal gun control law. Bazretti said: “We are divided into two groups; one that thinks if we keep people from owning guns it can stop another 12/14 from happening. Other group wants to protect ourselves from others like Adam Lanza. Obviously we don’t need an assault rifle to kill a deer, but we also don’t need to take away a 500-horsepower vehicle from an owner who wants to own a high-powered vehicle. That’s their choice.”
While lobbying in Philadelphia, Vice President Joe Biden said that the Obama administration is depending on the media to coerce the public into supporting a federal gun grab. Other “social media” are trying to discredit federal gun control. Biden said: “To be very blunt with you, we’re counting on all of you, the legitimate news media to cover these discussions because the truth is that times have changed.”
Biden continued on to say: “The social media that exists out there, the tragedies that have occurred, the Supreme Court decision affirming that its an individual right to bear arms – all give a lie to the argument that what we’re trying to do is somehow unconstitutional, or somehow goes after the legitimate right to own and bear arms and to hunt and protect yourselves.”
Earlier this month, speaking to the press on Capitol Hill, Vice President Joe Biden said that new gun laws would not “fundamentally alter” the likelihood of another mass shooting. Biden said: “Nothing we’re going to do is going to fundamentally alter or eliminate the possibility of another mass shooting or guarantee that we will bring gun deaths down to 1,000 a year from what it is now.”
Last month, Obama began his propaganda machine Organizing For Action to mobilize volunteers to campaign on the local level, as well as apply more pressure to lawmakers.
Through local chapters strategically placed throughout the country, OFA will train volunteers to rally their local elected officials and state senate leaders to back Obama’s push for certain legislation; such as gun control laws, public education, Obamacare, environmental issues, renewable sources of energy and immigration reform.
OFA will devise a “plan for 2013” by conducting meetings to conceptualize how best to use their “grassroots” organization to vie for the Obama administration.
OFA is focused on “organizing for Action will support the legislative agenda we voted on, train the next generation of grassroots organizers and leaders, and organize around local issues in our communities.”
Opponent to OFA, Fred Wertheimer, said that the fake grassroots propaganda tool “opens the door to opportunities for government corruption by allowing corporations and individuals to provide unlimited amounts of money to directly benefit the president’s interest and potentially to receive government benefits and favors in return.”
The Independence USA PAC, fronted by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, has begun a campaign and accompanying advert against Debbie Halvorson who is running for Congress because of her ties to the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Bloomberg has promised to use his clout to prevent pro-gun candidates from getting elected onto Capitol Hill. Through propaganda and over $1 million, Bloomberg is “trying to buy and election.”
